Black Cloud Red Blend
Initial Impressions
The first thing about the Black Cloud Red Blend that stood out to me was the price ($8.99)! Every trip that Laura and I take to our favorite spot, we like to pick up a bottle (or three) that have interesting designs and descriptions, especially if they are on sale. One of our favorite employees suggested that we choose the Black Cloud Red Blend by Cloud Break, so between the price, the interesting design and description and the recommendation — it was a done deal.
The First Taste
Although I was initially enthusiastic about this purchase, it was a while before I finally sampled the Black Cloud Red Blend one Friday evening after a particularly stressful day at work. By now, my initial impression had faded away as I poured a hefty glass with my artfully crafted baked chicken dinner. My newly found skills of: 1) Sampling the wine first with olfactory senses 2) Swirling the glass to observe the “legs” and to aid in aeration before tasting, went out the window as I immediately took a nice healthy sip. I was forced out of my Friday trance as I was delightfully awarded with the absolutely delicious flavor.
The Nuts and Bolts (tldr;)
This wine managed to teeter just on the edge of sweetness, while being silky and lingering just enough to be savored. The best description that I could muster is that this wine manipulates the flavor of the grape in a means that made me not want to classify it at all. If you already love red blends, this particular red blend is a no-brainer. If you enjoy sweeter reds, this is a great option as well, especially if you’ve been considering joining us on the dark side of the red wine spectrum. I will definitely be purchasing this wine again and it will likely make it to the list of my staple wine choices.
